Hmmm…A million little Brook Trout. Most anglers I spoke with also echoed this sentiment. Brook Trout are not bad, they’re just not as big as the Brown Trout I was used to catching in April. I personally did not have as much time to fish the trout streams in the St.Croix Valley as I did the previous month. The days I was on the river always seemed to be windy, the water just a bit off color, and the hatches sparse. I managed to catch fish on BWO’s, Caddis, and Sulfurs but the proliferation of the hatch was subdued when compared to years past. As of this writing, most waters in the valley and the big one itself ( The St. Croix ) are currently unfishable due to some voluminous rainfall that recently fell.
